Novaya Gazeta: Another Voice Silenced in Russia • FRANCE 24 English

A final chapter for one of Russia's most fearless newspapers, as Novaya Gazeta announces it is shutting down after more than three decades of challenging the Kremlin. Its journalists have paid the ultimate price for speaking out - including Anna Politkovskaya, shot dead in Moscow in 2006 while investigating abuses in Chechnya. The newspaper says six colleagues were killed over the years. Its former editor Dmitry Muratov won the Nobel Peace Prize, but even that could not protect the paper. Now, after years of raids, censorship and intimidation, Novaya Gazeta says Russian authorities have effectively killed the newspaper. The UN calls it a devastating blow to press freedom. #Russia #Novaya Gazeta #Putin 🔔 Subscribe to France 24 now: https://f24.my/YTen 🔴 LIVE - Watch FRANCE 24 English 24/7 here: https://f24.my/YTliveEN 🌍 Read the latest International News and Top Stories: https://www.france24.com/en/ Like us on Facebook: https://f24.my/FBen Follow us on X: https://f24.my/Xen Bluesky: https://f24.my/BSen and Threads: https://f24.my/THen Browse the news in pictures on Instagram: https://f24.my/IGen Discover our TikTok videos: https://f24.my/TKen Get the latest top stories on Telegram: https://f24.my/TGen
