President Trump suggested Monday that his call for other nations to help the U.S. reopen the Strait of Hormuz was more of a loyalty test than a true need for assistance.   “We don’t need anybody. We’re the strongest nation in the world,” he told reporters when asked which countries had agreed to send vessels to protect shipping in the critical waterway. “I’m almost doing it in some cases not because we need them but because I want to find out how they react.”   The president said he ultimately expected French President Emmanuel Macron to help but criticized the tepid response he received from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who vowed Monday not to let his country be “drawn into the wider war.”   “I was not happy with the U.K.,” President Trump said. “I think they’ll be involved, maybe, but they should be involved enthusiastically. We’ve been protecting these countries for years with NATO, because NATO is us. You can ask Putin. Putin fears us. He doesn’t fear — he has no fear of Europe whatsoever.”
